Persijap Jepara Strengthens Defense with Niger International, Now Boasts 9 Foreign Players
Persijap Jepara has officially welcomed its ninth foreign signing for the 2025-26 BRI Super League season with the addition of Najeeb Yakubu, a defender from the Niger national team. At 25 years old, Yakubu is expected to bolster the team's backline, particularly in the right-back or right wing-back position. His arrival follows a series of international signings by the club as they prepare to compete at a higher level in the upcoming campaign.
Yakubu brings European football experience to the Indonesian side, having most recently played for FC Prishtina in the Kosovo top flight. During the 2024-25 season, he made 19 appearances, scoring once and providing one assist. His earlier career includes stints in Ukraine with Vorskla Poltava and a loan spell in Finland with Ilves. Originally from Ghana, he began his football journey with Niger Tornadoes before moving to Europe, where he built a solid reputation as a reliable defender.
Despite representing Ghana at the U-17 level with nine appearances, Yakubu later switched his national allegiance to Niger at the senior level. Since his debut in 2022, he has earned 14 international caps and participated in several major qualifiers, including those for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2025 and 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. His international exposure and versatility add valuable depth to Persijap's defensive unit.
With the addition of Yakubu, Persijap Jepara now has a diverse mix of foreign talent in its squad. The club had earlier signed players from various nations, including Portugal’s Diogo Brito, Argentina’s Alexis Gomes, Ghana’s Sakyi Elvis, Burundi’s Sudi Abdallah, and several Brazilians like Carlos Franca, Rodrigo Moura, Douglas Costa, and Rosalvo Junior. This growing international presence reflects Persijap’s ambition to make a strong impression in the Super League and elevate their competitive standards for the upcoming season.
