China Suffers Blow as Key Player Suspended Ahead of Crucial Clash with Indonesia

China’s national football team faces a significant setback ahead of their World Cup qualifying match against Indonesia, as winger Lin Liangming has received an extended suspension from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Following a red card in a previous match against Saudi Arabia, the player has been handed a one-match automatic suspension and an additional one-match ban, ruling him out of the upcoming game in Jakarta.

The absence of Lin, who has been a regular part of Branko Ivankovic’s squad, comes at a critical moment in China’s qualification campaign. The 27-year-old, who once trained at Real Madrid’s academy, has already missed the match against Australia due to his earlier suspension and will now also miss the fixture against Indonesia on June 5, 2025. Despite his unavailability, China has potential replacements, with Wang Yudong from Zhejiang FC considered the top candidate to fill the gap on the wing.

Currently sitting at the bottom of Group C with six points, China must win their final two matches against Indonesia and Bahrain to stay in contention for a spot in the 2026 World Cup. The top two teams from the group will secure direct qualification. With the stakes so high, the loss of a key player like Lin could complicate China’s hopes of advancing.
