Indonesia National Team Advances Training Camp for World Cup Qualifiers After Past Challenges

The Indonesia national football team will begin their training camp in Bali on May 26, 2025, ahead of their crucial World Cup 2026 qualifiers. The team is preparing for two important matches, one against China at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta on June 5, followed by an away game against Japan in Suita City on June 10. The decision to start the camp earlier stems from lessons learned during previous challenges, especially the disorganized preparation before the Australia match, where players arrived late, affecting their performance.
PSSI President Erick Thohir emphasized the need for extended preparation time to avoid a repeat of past issues. The earlier camp is seen as crucial for fostering better coordination and team chemistry. Midfielder Thom Haye also voiced support for the decision, acknowledging the importance of building strong team dynamics ahead of facing top-tier teams like China and Japan. He reflected on the chaotic lead-up to the match against Australia, where the lack of synchronization among the players hindered their performance.
Currently, Indonesia sits fourth in Group C with 9 points from two wins, three draws, and three losses. A victory against China is essential for the team to keep their hopes alive for advancing to the next round, with the difficult away game against Japan looming. The training camp in Bali is expected to provide the necessary time and focus to strengthen the squad’s unity and prepare for these high-stakes encounters.
