Indonesia U-23 Strengthens Attack with Diaspora Strikers Ahead of 2026 Asian Qualifiers

Indonesia’s U-23 team is gearing up for the 2026 Asian Cup qualifiers with significant reinforcements from five diaspora players, mainly based in the Netherlands. Among these, three players—Mauro Zijlstra, Tim Geypens, and Dion Markx—have already joined the training camp and are seen as vital parts of the team’s long-term plans.
The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) has also announced the imminent arrival of two additional diaspora strikers, rumored to be Miliano Jonathans and Dean Zandbergen. Both players have committed to the national team, with their naturalization process currently progressing through government and parliamentary approval.
PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir emphasized the focus on strengthening the team’s forward line, recognizing the need for better quality and attacking power. This move aims to address the team’s pressing need for effective strikers and enhance the squad’s overall offensive capabilities.
Mauro Zijlstra’s naturalization is nearly complete, and at just 19, his potential is highly valued due to his impressive performances in the Dutch youth leagues. With these new additions, Indonesia’s U-23 team looks poised to be more competitive in the upcoming regional qualifiers.
