Liga 2 Transforms into Pegadaian Championship with New Club-Owned Operator
Starting from the 2025-26 season, Indonesia’s Liga 2 will undergo a major transformation, including a name change to Pegadaian Championship. This league will be managed by a newly formed operator that is separate from the entity running Liga 1. The decision was approved by nearly all shareholders during a general meeting attended by representatives of Liga 1 clubs, marking a strategic shift in the organization of the second-tier competition.

The new operator will be structured as a corporation where PT Liga Indonesia Baru (PT LIB) holds a 52 percent stake, while Liga 2 clubs collectively own the remaining 48 percent. This arrangement aims to give clubs more ownership and influence in the league’s management. All commercial aspects, such as sponsorship and broadcast rights, will be tailored specifically to the needs and character of Liga 2, differentiating it from the top division.

In addition to the league operator, PT LIB is launching a subsidiary called Sobat Liga, focused on ticketing and e-commerce services. This venture will introduce advanced technology like face recognition to enhance the security and convenience of ticket sales, ready to be rolled out with the new season.

The 2025-26 Pegadaian Championship will feature 20 clubs, including promoted and relegated teams, with competition running from September to April. Final rules regarding player quotas and other regulations are being finalized. This initiative marks a significant step in the professional development of Indonesia’s second-tier football, aiming to strengthen local club autonomy and foster a closer connection between the league and its regional roots.
