Persijap Jepara Appoints Experienced Portuguese Coach Mario Lemos Ahead of Liga 1 Debut
Persijap Jepara has officially appointed Portuguese coach Mario Licino Guerreiro Lemos as their new head coach for the 2025-26 Liga 1 season. This announcement marks a major step as the club enters its first campaign in Indonesia’s top-flight league following promotion. Lemos replaces Widodo Cahyono Putro, who has moved on to a new role elsewhere. The appointment was made public through the club’s official social media channels.
The management of Persijap Jepara expressed confidence in Lemos’ ability to lead the team through a challenging debut season in Liga 1. At 39 years old, he brings both tactical insight and significant coaching experience across various countries in Asia. His career spans multiple roles, including head coach and assistant positions in Thailand, South Korea, Malaysia, Bangladesh, and India, showcasing his familiarity with Asian football culture and competition levels.
Lemos’ most notable achievements include guiding Abahani Limited Dhaka to a South Asia Zone title in the 2019 AFC Cup, finishing as runner-up in the Bangladesh Premier League three times, and winning both the Independence Cup and Federation Cup in the 2021-22 season. His recent stint as assistant coach at Mumbai City FC in India adds to his already diverse resume, further strengthening Persijap’s technical team.
With this new leadership, Persijap aims to make a strong impression in their inaugural season among Indonesia’s elite football clubs. The club hopes that Lemos’ blend of international experience and tactical knowledge will help them stay competitive and build a foundation for long-term success in Liga 1.
