PSS Sleman Faces Severe Sanctions After Fans Ignite Flare During Match Against Persija
PSS Sleman’s dramatic 2-1 victory over Persija Jakarta in the 2024/2025 Liga 1 season could come at a heavy price, as the club faces potential disciplinary actions following a flare incident caused by their supporters. During the match at Maguwoharjo Stadium, fans of PSS, known as Super Elang Jawa, set off multiple flares in the 75th minute, creating thick smoke that forced a 30-minute suspension of the game for safety reasons. This incident has drawn the attention of the PSSI Disciplinary Committee, which may impose severe sanctions on the club.

Despite the controversy, the match itself was intense, with PSS securing the win through a penalty by Gustavo Tocantins and a dramatic last-minute goal from Marcelo Cirino. However, the flare incident overshadowed the excitement, as the delay disrupted the flow of the game. According to PSSI's disciplinary code, setting off flares is a serious violation, and depending on the number of flares, the club could face fines ranging from Rp 50 million to Rp 200 million or more.

If the flares are deemed to have endangered the safety of players or officials, PSS Sleman could also face additional penalties, including playing future home games without spectators, a formal warning from the PSSI Disciplinary Committee, and a review of their stadium's security measures. This situation brings to mind a similar incident in May 2024, where Bali United was fined Rp 250 million for a flare-related stoppage during one of their matches.
