PSSI Opens Door for Away Fans in Liga 1, But Only Under Strict Conditions

PSSI has addressed the potential lifting of the ban on away fans in Liga 1 for the 2025-26 season. However, the federation has set tough conditions for this to happen, emphasizing the need for full commitment and security guarantees from supporter groups. Currently, away fans are still prohibited from attending matches in an effort to prevent incidents of violence that have previously marred Indonesian football.
YunusNusi, the Secretary-General of PSSI, explained that the possibility of allowing away fans back into stadiums is under careful consideration. For this to happen, PSSI requires assurances regarding the safety and conduct of supporters, as any disruption could have severe consequences for the federation. He also referenced the tragic Kanjuruhan incident as a reminder of the risks involved, highlighting that PSSI officials would be held accountable if another incident were to occur.
The decision to lift the ban is still pending, as PSSI wants concrete evidence that the safety of away fans can be guaranteed. Until that commitment is made, especially for high-risk matches like Persija vs. Persib or Persebaya vs. Arema, the ban will remain in place. Yunus firmly stated that he will not approve any change unless there is a clear and accountable commitment from the supporter communities.
