Liga 1 2025-26 to Kick-off in August, Set to Pause During SEA Games 2025

The CEO of PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB), Ferry Paulus, confirmed that the 2025-26 Liga 1 season will officially begin in August 2025. With only seven matches remaining in the current 2024-25 season, PT LIB held a press conference in Jakarta on April 9, 2025, to discuss various topics, including the future of the league and its upcoming schedule.
Paulus emphasized that the Liga 1 schedule has been carefully planned in coordination with PSSI for the next five years, ensuring a smooth transition into the upcoming season. The 2025/2026 season will run for nine months, with the competition starting in August 2025 and concluding in May 2026.
To avoid clashes with the national team's commitments, including the SEA Games 2025 in Thailand, the league will pause during the event. PT LIB has already coordinated with the Indonesian national teams, including senior coach Patrick Kluivert and U-23 coach Gerald Vanenburg, to ensure that the league schedule accommodates these important tournaments.
SEA Games 2025, scheduled for December 9-20, will not interfere with Liga 1, allowing Indonesian football to support its national teams without disruption.
