Newcastle Ends 70-Year Trophy Drought with Carabao Cup Victory Over Liverpool

Newcastle United secured a historic 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the 2024-25 Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium, marking their first major domestic trophy in 70 years. Goals from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak ensured the triumph, while Federico Chiesa’s late effort for Liverpool was not enough to alter the outcome.  

This long-awaited success was celebrated with immense joy by Newcastle fans, as the club’s last trophy dated back to the 1955 FA Cup. Under Eddie Howe’s management, the team executed a disciplined counter-attacking strategy, effectively overcoming Liverpool’s dominance in possession.  

For Liverpool, the defeat added to their recent disappointments after earlier exits from the FA Cup and Champions League. Although they remain favorites to win the Premier League, their failure to secure domestic cup silverware was a significant setback.  

Newcastle’s win at Wembley not only ended their title drought but also signaled their resurgence in English football, breaking Liverpool’s recent dominance in domestic competitions.
