Indonesian Abroad Players' Weekend Recap: Ole Romeny Wins, Jay Idzes Holds Napoli
Nineteen Indonesian players competing overseas have wrapped up their final matches before the upcoming FIFA matchday, with varying results—some securing victories, others suffering defeats, while a few were left out of their teams’ lineups.
In the English Championship, Oxford United edged out Watford 1-0, with Ole Romeny starting and playing 68 minutes, while Marselino Ferdinan was not included in the squad. Swansea City's Nathan Tjoe-A-On was also left out as his team fell 0-2 to Burnley. Meanwhile, in League One, Elkan Baggott was absent from Blackpool’s 1-2 loss against Leyton Orient after previously being benched.
Italy’s Serie A saw Jay Idzes captain Venezia in a 0-0 draw against Napoli, playing the full match and delivering solid defensive stats. In Serie B, Emil Audero started for Palermo in a 2-3 defeat to Cremonese, earning a strong 7.0 rating after making five crucial saves.
Over in the Dutch Eredivisie, Thom Haye played the entire match in Almere City’s 1-1 draw with NAC Breda, while Calvin Verdonk helped NEC Nijmegen secure a 1-0 win over FC Utrecht with a standout performance. Dean James played 74 minutes in Go Ahead Eagles’ 1-0 victory over Willem II, while Mees Hilgers had a difficult outing as FC Twente suffered a heavy 2-6 defeat to Feyenoord. Several other Indonesian players, including Eliano Reijnders, Tim Geypens, Ivar Jenner, and Dion Markx, remained on the bench or were left out of their respective Eerste Divisie squads.
In Belgium’s second tier, Joey Pelupessy played a full match for Lommel in their 0-1 loss to Patro Eisden. Meanwhile, in Japan’s J1 League, Sandy Walsh contributed to Yokohama F. Marinos’ 2-0 win over Gamba Osaka.
Thailand’s top division featured Asnawi Mangkualam, who earned a strong 7.5 rating in Port FC’s goalless draw against Bangkok United, while Pratama Arhan came off the bench late in the game. In Malaysia, Jordi Amat was not included in Johor Darul Ta’zim’s squad for their 3-0 victory over Penang FC.
With their club duties temporarily set aside, these players now shift their focus to the national team as Indonesia prepares for the crucial World Cup qualifiers.
