PSS Sleman Faces Relegation Threat and Potential Loss of Key Players in Liga 1
PSS Sleman fans are facing a tough period as the club's relegation battle intensifies, with rumors circulating that several key players might leave at the end of the season. Currently, PSS Sleman is struggling in the 17th position in the Liga 1 standings, with just 22 points from 27 matches. A recent heavy defeat to Persis Solo (1-4) on March 11 has added to the pressure, leaving the team at risk of relegation if their form doesn’t improve.
With only seven tough matches remaining in the season, including games against top clubs like Dewa United, Persib Bandung, PSM Makassar, and Persija Jakarta, PSS Sleman must secure as many points as possible to avoid dropping to Liga 2. If relegation becomes a reality, the club may face an exodus of players, as top talents could leave for other clubs. PSS Sleman has some highly regarded foreign and local players, some of whom had already attracted interest from other Liga 1 clubs before joining the team.
Notably, Arema FC and Persija Jakarta are among the clubs that have shown interest in PSS Sleman’s foreign players. Two key figures who could potentially leave are Vico Duarte and Gustavo Tocantins.
Vico Duarte, the Brazilian playmaker who joined mid-season in 2024, has made an immediate impact, contributing 2 goals and 2 assists in 10 appearances. Should PSS Sleman be relegated, Duarte may seek a move, with Arema FC showing previous interest in him as a possible replacement for WiliamMarcilio.
Similarly, Gustavo Tocantins, PSS Sleman's top scorer with 11 goals and 4 assists, could also depart if the team drops to Liga 2. Before joining PSS Sleman, Tocantins had been linked with Persija Jakarta, and with Marko Simic’s contract expiring, Persija might look to secure the Brazilian striker for the upcoming season.
