Marselino Ferdinan Makes His Debut for Oxford United

Marselino Ferdinan made history with his debut for Oxford United, becoming the second Indonesian player to play in the prestigious FA Cup. The match, which took place on January 11, 2025, saw Oxford United face Exeter City in the third round of the competition at St James Park.

Marselino started the game on the bench as Oxford United trailed 1-2 in the second half, with Demetri Mitchell scoring twice for Exeter, while Matt Phillips had scored for Oxford. Exeter extended their lead in the 64th minute through Vincent Harper, and Oxford’s situation worsened when Tyler Goodrham was sent off in the 81st minute.

Oxford's manager, Gary Rowett, brought Marselino on in the 89th minute, replacing SirikiDembele. However, with limited time on the pitch, Marselino couldn’t showcase his best performance, and he received a yellow card during injury time. The match ended with Exeter City securing a 3-1 victory.

This match marked a significant moment for Marselino, as it was his first appearance for Oxford United since joining the club in the summer of 2024. Despite being with the team for several months, he had not yet been selected to start a match.

Marselino’s debut also made him the second Indonesian player to appear in the FA Cup, following in the footsteps of Elkan Baggott. Baggott had previously played in the tournament in 2022 with Gillingham FC, where he made three appearances, all as a starter, and even scored a historic goal in his third match to help Gillingham secure a 3-2 win over Dagenham &Redbridge.
