The controversy arose from an interview where Klok's remarks were quoted, leading to further media attention. The South Korean coach was dismissed by the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) on January 6, 2025.

In his clarification, Klok explained that there was some missing context, as he was speaking in Dutch at the time. He also acknowledged that he may have used inappropriate words.
"I might have used the wrong term," Klok admitted in a statement released on January 10, 2025.

Despite the misunderstanding, Klok expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to be coached by Shin Tae-yong, praising the 54-year-old coach for his discipline and firm approach. He emphasized that different coaches have varying methods, and he has always respected such differences.

"I’m thankful for the trust and the time I spent with Coach Shin Tae-yong, and I learned a lot from him," Klok said.
"He is a very strict coach, and every coach has their own style, which I always respect."
