Elkan Baggott Reacts to the Appointment of Patrick Kluivert as Indonesia's New Coach

Elkan Baggott, who has been out of the spotlight for a while, recently reacted to the news that Patrick Kluivert will be taking over as the new head coach of the Indonesia national football team. The 22-year-old defender, currently with Ipswich Town, showed his approval by liking an Instagram post from the account @risingballers, which shared the announcement about Kluivert's appointment.



The post highlighted the excitement surrounding Kluivert’s arrival and noted that Indonesia is home to a wealth of young, promising players. It also emphasized the strong support Kluivert has received from the Indonesian football community, which has only amplified the excitement around the national team’s future.

Kluivert’s appointment could prove to be a significant opportunity for Baggott, who may now have the chance to return to the national team after a period of absence. Since his appearance with Indonesia at the 2023 AFC Asian Cup in January 2024, Baggott has not featured for the team, mainly due to injuries. Additionally, his relationship with previous coach Shin Tae-yong had become strained.

The rift between Baggott and Shin Tae-yong began when Baggott declined to join the U-23 squad for a crucial Olympic qualifier against Guinea in May 2024. At that time, Indonesia’s senior team had been reinforced with new defensive talent, including Jay Idzes, Mees Hilgers, and Kevin Diks, which led Shin to move forward without Baggott in his plans.
