Monthly Salary of Just €500: Some Real Madrid Scouts Express Dissatisfaction with Low Pay

Recently, according to a report by Relevo, some domestic scouts at Real Madrid have expressed dissatisfaction with their working conditions. As key figures in identifying future football talents, they pointed out that their current pay and treatment do not match the high demands and efforts required by the job.

Real Madrid employs numerous scouts across Spain, tasked with discovering potential players, writing reports, preparing match analyses, and ensuring the club makes well-informed signings. However, despite representing one of Europe’s top clubs, many scouts have highlighted issues with their work environment. They noted that although the club has invested in specialized software to manage player information, the tools are underutilized, and scouts are often required to duplicate tasks.

Additionally, the level of support varies by region. For instance, scouts in the Levante area regularly meet with supervisors, whereas those in northern regions reportedly see their superiors only once or twice a year.

The scouts’ monthly salary is approximately €500, a figure that has remained unchanged for years, despite their significant time commitments, particularly on weekends, watching matches, compiling reports, and being on-call. While the club reimburses fuel costs, the per-kilometer allowance has not been updated for years and does not cover vehicle maintenance. Scouts use their private cars, driving hundreds of kilometers weekly, with depreciation and repair costs falling entirely on them.

In terms of contracts, scouts are employed on one-year agreements, automatically renewed annually on June 30. However, these contracts have been described as "non-agreements," lacking the benefits enjoyed by other club staff. Some scouts have also raised concerns about the club’s termination practices, claiming they have not received fair compensation upon dismissal.

Last month, all scouts gathered in Madrid for a meeting coinciding with Real Madrid’s home game against Osasuna. Despite many scouts never having visited the renovated Bernabéu Stadium, the club did not arrange for them to attend the match in person. Instead, they were directed to watch the game on screens at the training facility, leaving many disappointed.
