Thom Haye Returns to Indonesian National Team Despite Being Clubless
Thom Haye, a Dutch-born naturalized Indonesian midfielder, has been called up again to the Indonesian national team by coach Patrick Kluivert for the upcoming FIFA Matchday in September 2025. Indonesia will face Kuwait and Lebanon in matches held at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium in Surabaya. Despite currently being without a club, Haye remains an important part of the Garuda squad.
Haye’s contract with Almere City ended in June 2025, leaving him clubless for now. However, he is expected to find a new team in the Eredivisie before the transfer window closes in early September. This is not his first period without a club, as he had a similar situation before joining Almere City.
Born in Amsterdam in 1995, Haye is a defensive midfielder standing 187 cm tall. His Indonesian heritage comes from his grandparents, who hail from Solo and North Sulawesi. He became a naturalized Indonesian citizen in March 2024 and has since been representing the national team.
Throughout his career, Haye has played for several clubs in the Netherlands and Italy, including AZ Alkmaar, Willem II, Lecce, and others. He also represented the Netherlands at youth levels, winning the UEFA U-17 European Championship twice. At Almere City, he made 29 appearances in the 2024/2025 season, contributing a goal and three assists despite the team’s relegation.
