Indonesian Captain Jay Idzes Joins Serie A’s Sassuolo

Jay Idzes, the captain of the Indonesian national team, has officially signed with Sassuolo, a newly promoted Serie A club for the 2025-26 season. The club confirmed the signing on August 9, 2025, acquiring him on a permanent transfer from Venezia. Born in the Netherlands and developed through the PSV Eindhoven academy, Idzes has built a strong reputation as a defender, which earned him this significant step in his career.
Before joining Sassuolo, Idzes gained valuable experience at Go Ahead Eagles, where he made 93 appearances and scored three goals over three seasons. His performances attracted attention from several Italian clubs, including Udinese, Genoa, and Torino. However, the transfer fee set by Venezia, estimated at around 10 million euros, made some interested clubs step back, leaving Sassuolo to secure the deal.
Sassuolo’s transfer move included another player from Venezia, Fali Cande, with a total cost of approximately 11 million euros for both players. Jay Idzes alone was valued at about 8 million euros, making him one of the more expensive signings for the club. This investment reflects Sassuolo’s confidence in his ability to strengthen their defense as they compete in Italy’s top flight.
Since joining Venezia in the 2023-24 season, Idzes has been a key figure, contributing significantly to their promotion to Serie A by scoring five goals in 66 appearances across all competitions. His leadership and solid performances have made him an important player for both his club and the Indonesian national team, marking this transfer as an exciting milestone in his career.
