Inter Milan Eyes Christopher Nkunku as Backup Plan After Lookman Deal Stalls
Inter Milan continues its search for a new striker after their bid for Ademola Lookman was rejected by Atalanta. Although Lookman is interested in joining Inter and has agreed on personal terms, the negotiations have stalled due to Atalanta’s firm demand for a higher transfer fee. This deadlock has forced Inter to quickly shift their focus to another target: Christopher Nkunku, who is currently struggling for playing time at Chelsea.
Inter initially offered €45 million for Lookman, but Atalanta insists on €50 million, causing the negotiations to reach an impasse despite Inter’s attempt to include performance-based bonuses. With the deal on hold, Inter has already begun talks with Nkunku’s representatives to explore the possibility of securing the French forward as an alternative. Nkunku has now become a primary target for the Milan club as they look to strengthen their attack.
However, the financial aspect presents a significant challenge. Nkunku’s annual salary is reportedly around €6.5 million, considerably higher than Lookman’s €4.5 million per year, which could complicate Inter’s plans. The club must weigh the financial impact carefully and be prepared for tough negotiations if Nkunku is unwilling to reduce his wage demands.
Chelsea appears open to selling Nkunku to streamline their squad and create space for new players. Inter remains attentive to this opportunity while preparing alternative strategies, with the possibility of securing Nkunku hinging on their readiness to meet both his salary expectations and Chelsea’s transfer price.
