Shin Tae-yong Poised to Make History as Ulsan Hyundai’s New Head Coach

Former Indonesia national team coach Shin Tae-yong is rumored to be on the verge of becoming Ulsan Hyundai’s new manager, potentially earning the highest salary ever paid to a coach in the K League. Ulsan Hyundai recently dismissed Kim Pan-gon after a poor run of results, including seven losses and just three draws in their last ten matches, which left the reigning champions struggling in seventh place.
To turn things around, the club has reportedly offered Shin Tae-yong a record-breaking salary, with reports suggesting that both sides have reached an agreement, although the contract is yet to be finalized. This move signals Ulsan’s determination to bring in a proven leader capable of restoring their winning ways and lifting the team back to the top of the league.
Shin Tae-yong made a significant impact during his tenure with the Indonesia national teams, leading the senior squad to historic milestones such as reaching the third round of Asian World Cup qualifiers for the first time and guiding the U-23 team to the semifinals of the 2024 AFC U-23 Championship. His success included eliminating South Korea in the quarterfinals, demonstrating his tactical prowess and ability to motivate his teams.
Since leaving Indonesia’s national team earlier this year, Shin Tae-yong has not taken on another coaching role but has remained active in football administration. He now serves as Vice President of the Korea Football Association and General Manager of Seongnam FC, where he is involved in club development and management, making him well-positioned for a return to top-level coaching with Ulsan Hyundai.
