David Alaba Determined to Stay at Real Madrid Until 2026 Despite Exit Talks

David Alaba has reportedly made it clear that he intends to remain at Real Madrid until the final year of his contract in 2026. Despite the club’s willingness to let him leave on a free transfer this summer, the Austrian defender is not ready to part ways just yet. After recovering from a serious injury, Alaba is determined to prove his worth and continue competing at the highest level.
Competition for a starting spot in Real Madrid’s central defense has intensified with the presence of Eder Militao, Antonio Rudiger, Raul Asencio, and new signing Dean Huijsen. However, Alaba remains confident in his ability to earn his place in the squad. His experience and leadership are still viewed as assets, even as the club shifts toward younger talent in defense.
A major factor influencing Alaba’s decision to stay is financial. Earning a gross salary of €22.5 million per year, he is one of the highest-paid players at the club. Real Madrid reportedly offered to partially settle his contract early in hopes of facilitating a transfer, but Alaba declined, insisting on receiving the full value of his deal with no room for negotiation.
The club is still actively seeking a resolution, with teams from Saudi Arabia seen as the most likely destination should Alaba change his stance. However, no concrete offers have materialized, and unless a buyer steps up to cover his full wages, Alaba is expected to remain at the Santiago Bernabéu for at least another season. Real Madrid may continue pushing for a solution, but the clock is ticking as the transfer window in Saudi Arabia remains open until late September.
