Arema FC’s Disappointing Exit Marks Worst Performance at President’s Cup 2025

Arema FC’s journey in the President’s Cup 2025 ended in disappointment, as the team failed to advance beyond the group stage and recorded the worst performance among all participants. Despite their historic success in the tournament’s past editions, including four championship titles, Arema struggled to find form this year. Over two group matches, they managed only a single draw and suffered a heavy defeat, resulting in last place in their group.
During the group phase, Arema FC scored just two goals while conceding six, leading to a negative goal difference that ranked the lowest among all teams. Their lone point came from a draw against the Liga Indonesia All Stars, but a 0-4 loss to Oxford United, who topped their group, sealed their fate. Although several other teams also earned only one point, Arema’s poor goal difference positioned them at the bottom of the standings.
The team’s coach, Marquinhos Santos, openly acknowledged the disappointing results and extended an apology to the fans. He emphasized that despite the unfavorable outcomes, the players put in a strong effort and appreciated the supporters’ unwavering encouragement. The coach also highlighted the valuable lessons gained from competing against strong foreign teams, seeing the experience as an opportunity for growth.
While the tournament exposed significant challenges for Arema FC, it also provided a critical moment for reflection and improvement. Facing international clubs has shown the team areas that need development, and despite the setback, the experience may help them rebuild and come back stronger in future competitions
