Indonesia’s National Team Climbs FIFA Rankings in July 2025, Closing in on Regional Rivals
In the July 2025 FIFA rankings update, Indonesia’s national football team made a notable leap, rising five places to 118th in the world. This progress reflects the team’s growing consistency and improved performances, especially in the recent World Cup qualifiers. The team now holds over 1154 points, a significant increase from previous rankings, signaling that their efforts are starting to pay off on the international stage.

Key to this rise was Indonesia’s victory against China during the June qualifiers, which helped secure crucial ranking points. Although they suffered a defeat to Japan, the loss did not heavily impact their position due to Japan’s higher ranking. The overall results from the June matchdays have brought Indonesia closer to its regional competitor, Vietnam, who currently ranks slightly above at 113th but experienced a drop in their standing.

Vietnam’s decline is linked to a loss against Malaysia in the Asian Cup qualifiers, which caused them to fall four spots in the rankings. This setback opens a real opportunity for Indonesia to surpass Vietnam in the near future, a milestone that seemed challenging before. If Indonesia maintains its upward trajectory, it could soon emerge as one of Southeast Asia’s stronger football nations.

Within the ASEAN region, Thailand continues to hold the highest FIFA ranking despite slipping three places to 102nd. Meanwhile, Malaysia made a remarkable jump, climbing six positions to 125th after impressive results including a win over Vietnam. Malaysia’s rise marks the most significant improvement among ASEAN teams, highlighting a competitive shift in Southeast Asian football rankings.
