Ancelotti Sentenced for Tax Fraud, Avoids Jail Time
Carlo Ancelotti has been sentenced to one year in prison by a Spanish court for tax fraud related to his time managing Real Madrid. The charges stem from unpaid taxes totaling one million euros during the 2014 and 2015 seasons, during his first stint with the club.

Although prosecutors initially sought a sentence of nearly five years, the court issued a lighter verdict. Ancelotti claimed he had no intent to deceive tax authorities, stating he simply followed advice from the club and his financial advisors at the time.

Due to Spanish law, Ancelotti will not serve jail time since his sentence is under two years, involves a non-violent offense, and he has no prior criminal record. Instead, he is required to pay a fine of approximately €386,261, equivalent to around 7.3 billion rupiah.

The Italian coach had already repaid the full amount owed by December 2021, which contributed to the reduced punishment. Despite the legal outcome, Ancelotti remains active as head coach of Brazil’s national team.
