New Head Coach Frank van Kempen Takes Charge of Indonesia U-20 National Team

Frank van Kempen has been appointed as the new head coach of Indonesia's U-20 national football team. This announcement was made official by Erick Thohir, the chairman of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI). The decision reflects a strategic move to strengthen the youth team in preparation for higher-level competitions.
Van Kempen brings extensive experience working with young players, having served as assistant coach for various Dutch youth national teams including U-17, U-20, and U-23. He is also recognized as a UEFA coaching instructor, contributing to coach education in the Netherlands since 2014. His background indicates a solid foundation in youth development and tactical expertise.
Before joining the Indonesian team, Van Kempen worked as an assistant coach for second-division Dutch clubs VVV-Venlo and Helmond Sport over several seasons. Additionally, he has managed multiple youth squads at clubs like Roda JC, Sparta Rotterdam, and NAC Breda. His diverse roles include experience as a video analyst, showcasing his comprehensive understanding of modern football coaching techniques.
Van Kempen replaces IndraSjafri, who was dismissed after Indonesia failed to qualify for the 2025 U-20 World Cup and exited early from the recent U-20 Asian Cup. The new coach’s appointment signals a fresh start and a commitment from PSSI to build a more competitive Indonesian youth team capable of advancing in international tournaments.
