Indonesia National Team to Face Kuwait and Lebanon in September Friendlies Ahead of World Cup Qualifiers
The Indonesian national football team is set to play two friendly matches against Kuwait and Lebanon in Surabaya this coming September. These matches are part of the FIFA international calendar and serve as crucial preparation for Indonesia’s upcoming campaign in the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The announcement was confirmed by PSSI chairman Erick Thohir during a press conference in Jakarta.

This series of friendlies is intended to help coach Patrick Kluivert and his squad fine-tune their strategies ahead of the more competitive fixtures in October 2025. Although the exact opponents for Indonesia in the next qualification stage have not been determined yet, the draw for the fourth round is scheduled for mid-July. Indonesia is among six teams that have advanced to this stage.

The six qualified teams—Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iraq, United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Indonesia—will be divided into two groups of three teams each. The matches will be hosted in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, with the group winners earning direct qualification to the World Cup finals. The runners-up from each group will face off in a fifth-round playoff.

The winner of that playoff will then advance to an intercontinental playoff against teams from other confederations including Africa, South America, Oceania, and CONCACAF. This challenging path highlights the importance of the upcoming friendlies in Surabaya as Indonesia prepares to compete on the world stage.
