Arsenal Overhauls Squad with 19 Departures Ahead of 2025-26 Season
Arsenal has made a major move to reshape their squad for the upcoming 2025-26 season by releasing 19 players as of early July 2025. This overhaul involves mainly academy graduates and backup players, but also includes experienced figures like Thomas Partey and Jorginho. Partey, a key midfielder, chose to leave despite hopes for his retention, while Jorginho’s exit had been anticipated due to his diminishing role and subsequent transfer to Flamengo in Brazil.

The defense also saw changes, with left-back Kieran Tierney returning to Celtic after struggling for playing time behind competitors Oleksandr Zinchenko and Takehiro Tomiyasu. Arsenal also parted ways with young winger Marquinhos, sold permanently to Crizeorp, and Nuno Tavares, who moved to Lazio. Several academy players who failed to break into the first team were also released, signaling a significant revamp in the club’s U-21 squad.

With these departures finalized, Arsenal’s focus has shifted toward strengthening key positions. Their top priority is acquiring a sharp striker to bolster the attack, and names such as Benjamin Sesko, Viktor Gyokeres, and Rodrygo have been linked, although no deals are close to completion yet. In goal, Arsenal is reportedly close to signing Kepa Arrizabalaga to compete with David Raya for the starting spot.

For midfield reinforcements, the club is eyeing Christian Nørgaard from Brentford and Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad as potential replacements for Partey and Jorginho. Both players are valued for their physicality and mobility, qualities Arsenal needs to maintain balance and stability in the midfield for the next season.
