Jakarta Named FIFA’s New Football Hub for Southeast and East Asia
Jakarta has officially been designated by FIFA as the central hub for football development in Southeast and East Asia. This milestone was confirmed after the signing of the final Host Country Agreement (HCA) between FIFA and PSSI, led by Erick Thohir, during the FIFA Executive Football Summit in Miami. The establishment of the FIFA Hub in Jakarta will serve 21 member associations across both regions, making it a strategic base for expanding football's reach beyond national borders.
The agreement not only strengthens Indonesia’s role in the international football scene but also reflects FIFA's commitment to ensuring equal football development worldwide. By situating its regional center in Jakarta, FIFA aims to offer broader support for football growth across Asia, especially in areas experiencing rising interest and performance in the sport. This initiative is expected to bring technical, organizational, and developmental benefits to the surrounding football federations.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino expressed appreciation for the progress made by PSSI over the past two years, especially given Indonesia’s previous challenges in football governance and infrastructure. The advancements, including the improved performance of the national team and structural reforms, have positioned Indonesia as a key player in the regional football landscape. This recognition by FIFA is a testament to those efforts and their impact.
Adding to the historic occasion, PSSI also received the FIFA Forward Gold Award in Miami. The award honors member associations that have achieved significant milestones under the FIFA Forward program. Indonesia earned this accolade for its successful establishment of the PSSI National Training Centre in the Nusantara capital, funded by a \$5.4 million grant from FIFA. This further solidifies Indonesia's emerging leadership in Asian football development.
