Borneo FC Undertakes Major Overhaul, Cuts 14 Ahead of Liga 1 2025-26 Season

Borneo FC has initiated a significant reshuffle ahead of the 2025-26 Liga 1 season by releasing 14 key personnel, including nine players and five coaching staff. This bold move follows their fifth-place finish in the previous season, which, while respectable, fell short compared to their achievements in earlier campaigns. The club aims to rebuild with a fresh squad and coaching lineup to better compete for higher targets in the upcoming season.
The released players include some surprising names, most notably Matheus Pato, who had been a pivotal striker for the team in recent years. Despite his contributions to Borneo FC’s attacking strength, the decision to part ways reflects a broader strategy focused on renewing the team’s core. Alongside the players, the club also parted ways with head coach Joaquin Gomez and his entire coaching team, signaling a shift in tactical direction.
In place of Gomez, Borneo FC appointed Fabio Lefundes as the new head coach. Lefundes brings experience from Indonesian football, having previously coached Persita Tangerang and Madura United. His reputation for discipline and strong leadership is seen as a key asset in building a more cohesive and competitive squad.
Overall, the club’s management demonstrates a clear commitment to restructuring and improving the team’s performance. With new personnel both on and off the pitch, Borneo FC is setting its sights on climbing higher in the league standings and contending more seriously for the title in the next season.
