Napoli Targets Darwin Nunez to Boost Attack Ahead of Champions League Campaign

Napoli is reportedly making strong moves to sign Darwin Nunez from Liverpool during the summer 2025 transfer window. After securing the Serie A title in the 2024-25 season, the club aims to strengthen its squad to defend the championship and compete effectively in European competitions. The arrival of new coach Antonio Conte has prompted management to focus on reinforcing the attacking line.
Last season, Napoli heavily relied on Romelu Lukaku for goals and assists, prompting the club to seek a reliable partner or backup striker. With the busy schedule of the upcoming Champions League, squad depth—especially in attack—has become a top priority. Darwin Nunez has emerged as a prime candidate, fitting well into Conte’s tactical approach and offering valuable offensive options.
Nunez, who joined Liverpool from Benfica in 2022 for a significant transfer fee, has struggled to meet expectations under both Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot. His current contract runs until 2028, but recent performances, with just seven goals and seven assists in 47 matches this season, have led Liverpool to consider offers, possibly at a reduced price.
Napoli has reportedly already initiated direct negotiations with Liverpool, signaling serious intent to secure the Uruguayan striker. However, the Italian club faces competition from Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal. Napoli’s participation in next season’s Champions League may give them an advantage as talks continue.
