Chelsea Hesitates as AC Milan Sets High Price for Goalkeeper Mike Maignan
Clsehea has shown strong interest in signing French goalkeeper Mike Maignan from AC Milan, but negotiations have stalled due to disagreements over the transfer fee. Although Milan appears open to parting ways with Maignan, whose contract ends next year, they have set a valuation that Chelsea finds too steep given the limited time left on his deal.
AC Milan is reportedly asking for €30 million for the goalkeeper, a figure that Chelsea currently refuses to match. From Chelsea’s perspective, the price tag seems excessive for a player nearing the end of his contract, and they are unwilling to proceed unless Milan reduces the demand. As a result, no official bid has been made, and talks remain at an impasse.
Chelsea’s hesitation is also influenced by their already crowded goalkeeping roster. The squad currently includes multiple options such as Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen, Djordje Petrovic, Mike Penders, and Kepa Arrizabalaga. With this depth, Chelsea may consider offloading one of their current goalkeepers, possibly to Milan, to help facilitate a potential deal for Maignan.
Maignan has been with AC Milan since his 2021 transfer from Lille, where he won the Ligue 1 title. His time in Milan has also been marked by success, contributing to the club’s Serie A victory in 2022 and winning the Italian Super Cup in 2024. Despite his achievements, the ongoing price dispute could prevent a move to Stamford Bridge unless both clubs find a compromise.
