PSSI Opens Door for Naturalized National Team Players to Join Liga 1 Clubs
PSSI has officially allowed naturalized Indonesian national team players to join clubs in Liga 1, giving these players more flexibility as they navigate uncertain club situations. Several of them, including Shayne Pattynama, Thom Haye, Jordi Amat, Justin Hubner, and Rafael Struick, are currently without teams or expected to change clubs soon. With the green light from PSSI chairman Erick Thohir, they now have the option to continue their careers in Indonesia's top league.
Interest from Liga 1 clubs is already growing. Thom Haye has been linked with Persija Jakarta, Bhayangkara FC is reportedly targeting Pattynama, while both Persib Bandung and Bali United are monitoring Jordi Amat. Bali United is also said to be considering a move for Rafael Struick. These potential transfers have generated excitement among fans and clubs alike, as they could significantly elevate the overall quality of the competition.
League officials and club management have welcomed the possibility of national team players participating in Liga 1. The presence of such talent would not only improve the standard of play but also boost the league’s visibility and fan engagement. PT Liga Indonesia Baru's CEO Ferry Paulus expressed optimism that the inclusion of these players would make Liga 1 more vibrant and appealing to broader audiences.
