Drama Surrounds Serie A Title Race as Conte and Inzaghi Are Sent Off

The Serie A 2024-25 title race took an unexpected turn on May 18, 2025, as both Antonio Conte of Napoli and Simone Inzaghi of Inter Milan were sent off during crucial matches in the 37th week of the season. Conte was shown a red card after Napoli’s 0-0 draw with Parma, following a heated argument with Parma’s substitute players. He, along with Parma’s coach Christian Chivu, was dismissed from the sidelines. Conte expressed frustration over Parma’s time-wasting tactics, which he felt were unsporting compared to the modern football played in England.
Meanwhile, Inzaghi also had an early exit in a tense match between Inter Milan and Lazio at San Siro. Inter had twice taken the lead through Yan Bisseck and Denzel Dumfries, but Lazio equalized through Pedro, including a controversial penalty awarded after a VAR review for a handball by Bisseck. Inzaghi’s strong protests against the penalty decision led to him receiving a red card, and Lazio’s coach Marco Baroni was also sent off. Both coaches had to watch the remainder of the game from the stands.
Despite these setbacks, the title race remains incredibly tight, with Napoli leading by just one point over Inter, who failed to overtake them. With one match remaining—Napoli hosting Cagliari and Inter traveling to Como—the final showdown for the Scudetto will proceed without the presence of the two key managers. Serie A’s final matchday will be a high-pressure affair, with both teams still in contention for the title, making the drama of the season’s conclusion all the more intense.
