North Korea Ends Indonesia U-17's Journey in a Crushing Quarterfinal Defeat

Indonesia's U-17 national team saw their campaign in the 2025 AFC U-17 Asian Cup come to an end after suffering a heavy 6-0 defeat to North Korea in the quarterfinals. The match started poorly for Indonesia, who found themselves two goals down in the first half. North Korea took the lead in the seventh minute through Choe Song-hun, followed by a second goal from Kim Yu-jin in the 19th minute.
The 2-0 scoreline remained unchanged until halftime. However, things unraveled quickly in the second half as Indonesia conceded four more goals. Just three minutes after the restart, RiKyong-bong made it 3-0. North Korea extended their lead with a penalty from Kim Tae-guk in the 60th minute, followed by a swift goal from Ri Kang-rim just a minute later. The final blow came in the 77th minute when Pak Ju-Won scored the sixth goal.
This defeat marked the end of Indonesia's unbeaten run in the tournament, which had stretched from the qualification rounds through the group stage. Despite the loss, the result wasn’t entirely unexpected. North Korea, a two-time champion in 2010 and 2014, had been dominant throughout the tournament, maintaining a perfect record.
The quarterfinal match between Indonesia U-17 and North Korea U-17 took place at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Monday, April 14, 2025.
