Manchester United Set to Compete with Chelsea for Ipswich Striker Liam Delap

Manchester United is set to challenge Chelsea for the signature of Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap this summer, as they target the 22-year-old forward to solve their ongoing goalscoring issues. Delap has caught the attention of United, who had previously been considering other high-profile targets like Viktor Gyökeres, Benjamin Sesko, and Victor Osimhen.
Despite facing financial challenges, including job cuts and measures to avoid breaching the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules, United are committed to strengthening their squad, with a new center-forward identified as a key priority. Delap, who has netted 12 goals in 30 Premier League appearances for Ipswich since his £20 million transfer from Manchester City last year, is seen as a more affordable option, especially if Ipswich is relegated.
Delap's contract includes a £40 million buy-back clause for Manchester City, but sources suggest that City is unlikely to activate it, given their commitment to ErlingHaaland. However, City stands to benefit financially due to a 20% exit clause, which entitles them to a share of any profit made from Delap's sale.
With Chelsea also interested in Delap, United faces stiff competition, particularly as Chelsea’s coach, Enzo Maresca, worked with Delap at City's Academy. Additionally, Liverpool could enter the race if they lose players like Darwin Núñez and Mohamed Salah.
