Raul Asencio: The Lone Real Madrid Representative in Spain’s National Team

Carlo Ancelotti has shared his thoughts on Raul Asencio’s inclusion in Spain’s national team squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League clash against the Netherlands.
Luis de la Fuente has called up 27 players for the quarter-final tie, with Asencio’s name being one of the biggest surprises. The young Real Madrid defender earned his spot after delivering impressive performances for his club this season.

With Real Madrid’s defense struggling with injuries, Asencio, at just 22 years old, seized the opportunity to establish himself in the starting lineup. Even as some senior defenders have returned to fitness, he has continued to secure a place in the team. His consistency has now been rewarded with a national team call-up.
Notably, Asencio is the only Real Madrid player in Spain’s current squad. Usual representatives Dani Carvajal and Dani Ceballos are unavailable due to injuries, leaving Asencio as the club’s sole contribution to La FuriaRoja.

Ancelotti expressed his pride in the young defender’s achievement, emphasizing that he fully deserves the recognition. The Italian coach also hopes this call-up leads to more opportunities for Asencio in the national team, including the chance to make his debut.

Spain and the Netherlands will face off in a two-legged quarter-final. The first leg will take place at Feyenoord Stadium on March 21, with Spain playing away. The return leg is set for March 24 at Mestalla Stadium, where Spain will host the Dutch side.
