Persib’s Unstoppable Streak: A Decade of Dominance at the Top of Liga 1
Persib Bandung is on the verge of making history by securing back-to-back Liga 1 titles for the 2024-25 season. The team remains firmly at the top of the standings, holding an eight-point advantage over its closest competitor, Dewa United.
As of matchweek 27, Persib has accumulated 57 points, followed by Dewa United with 49 points, Persebaya Surabaya with 48, and both Persija Jakarta and Malut United with 43 points each. This dominant position is a result of an impressive record of 16 wins, nine draws, and only two losses. Even more remarkable, Persib has maintained its grip on the top spot for ten consecutive weeks.
The turning point came in matchweek 16 when Persib overtook Persebaya to claim the league’s top position. From that moment, the team displayed exceptional consistency, finishing the first half of the season as the leader with 38 points, despite having one postponed match against Bali United.
Since then, Persib has remained unchallenged at the summit. By matchweek 22, they had extended their lead over Dewa United to nine points. However, a dip in form across three consecutive matches temporarily threatened their dominance. Draws against Persija and Madura United were followed by a crushing 1-4 defeat to Persebaya, allowing Dewa United to close the gap.
Undeterred, Persib bounced back emphatically in the following two fixtures, securing commanding 4-1 victories over Persik Kediri and Semen Padang. Their lead was further solidified after Dewa United suffered a narrow 0-1 defeat to Borneo FC, widening the points gap once again to eight.
With only seven matches remaining in the season, Persib’s path to defending their title is well within reach. Maintaining consistency over the next five games could see them clinch the championship once again, reaffirming their dominance in Indonesian football.
