--------------------------------
Real Sociedad
In 2021, the "Txuri-urdines" under the management of Imanol Alguacil clinched the long-delayed final of the 2019-2020 Copa del Rey, defeating Athletic Club 1-0 thanks to a penalty scored by their captain Mikel Oyarzabal. This marked the first trophy for La Real since 1987 and their third overall triumph in the tournament. They were eliminated in the next two editions of the Copa del Rey, first by Betis and subsequently by Barcelona, while last year, Real Sociedad reached the semi-finals only to be surprisingly knocked out by Mallorca in a penalty shootout during the home leg of the quarter-finals.

In the current tournament, Imanol Alguacil's side began with an emphatic 5-0 victory over lower-league club Hoe Espanyol. They followed this with a 1-0 extra-time win against Conquense and a more convincing 2-0 victory over third-division Ponferradina. In the Round of 16, the Basques confidently dispatched Rayo Vallecano at home with a 3-1 scoreline. The draw for the next round has been favorable for the "Txuri-urdines," giving them an excellent chance to replicate their performance from last year. However, they approach this match far from optimal form.

In the five matches following their cup victory over the "Lightning," the Basques suffered four defeats, managing only a win against average Greek side PAOK last week, earning them a place in the Europa League playoff ties against Denmark's Midtjylland. Before that, Real Sociedad narrowly lost away to Valencia, a team that has been in the relegation zone for a prolonged period, suffered a heavy 0-3 defeat in Rome against Lazio, and experienced an embarrassing home loss against modest Getafe. Last weekend, Imanol Alguacil's team deservedly lost to their future  opponent in Pamplona, going down 1-2.

Osasuna
In over 100 years of history, the Pamplona side has yet to secure a major trophy (winning the Segunda or Tercera championships do not count as significant accomplishments). Therefore, Osasuna's highest achievements remain two fourth-place finishes in La Liga and two appearances in the Copa del Rey final. In 2005, under the guidance of Javier Aguirre, they lost 1-2 to Betis, while in 2023, a similar fate befell Jagoba Arrasate's team, losing 1-2 to Real Madrid in Seville. Last season, Osasuna were knocked out in the Round of 16, losing 0-2 at home to Real Sociedad in a match that was relatively controversial, with questions raised about dubious penalty decisions. Oyarzabal scored the first penalty; the second was missed, butMikel Merino capitalized on the rebound.

Like their upcoming rival, Osasuna started their current tournament journey with a convincing 5-0 win in the first round against amateur club Chiclana. Vicente Moreno's side then triumphed 3-2 over third-division Ceuta, having trailed 0-2 until the 84th minute. At the start of the year, Osasuna won 2-1 away at one of the relegation-threatened La Liga 2 teams, Tenerife, with an own goal from a rival proving pivotal, and two weeks later, they created a real sensation by eliminating reigning Copa del Rey holders Athletic, winning 3-2 in Bilbao with a goal from Aimar Oros and a brace from Ante Budimir.

Following their success at San Mamés, Osasuna have yet to taste defeat. Although they could not get the better of Rayo Vallecano in their next home game, they experienced a disappointing draw against Las Palmas in Gran Canaria, where they played with a numerical advantage and had a slim lead but ultimately conceded late from a set-piece. Of course, we have already mentioned how Osasuna finally ended their long winless streak in La Liga by defeating Real Sociedad.

Real Sociedad possible starting lineup:
Remiro; Aramburu, Zubeldia, Aguerd, Munoz; Kubo, Zubimendi, Sucic, Gomez; Oyarzabal, Oskarsson

Osasuna possible starting lineup:
Herrera; Areso, Boyomo, Catena, Cruz; Moncayola, Torro, Oroz; Ru. Garcia, Barja, Budimir

Real Sociedad vs Osasuna Head-to-Head and Key Numbers
Real Sociedad have a good recent record against Osasuna and have won 24 out of the 51 matches played between the two teams, as opposed to Osasuna's 15 victories.
Real Sociedad have won only one of their last five matches in all competitions, with their only victory during this period coming by a 2-0 scoreline against PAOK in the UEFA Europa League last week.
Osasuna have conceded at least one goal in each of their last seven matches in all competitions, with their previous clean sheet coming in a 0-0 stalemate against Espanyol in a La Liga match in December last year.
Osasuna have won each of their last four matches against Real Sociedad in all competitions, with their previous such defeat coming by a 2-0 scoreline in a La Liga encounter in January last year.

Prediction: Real Sociedad 2-1 Osasuna
Real Sociedad will be looking forward to having home advantage following their unsuccessful trip to El Sadar at the weekend, and after winning seven of their last nine competitive matches at the Reale Arena, we think that they will do enough to claim a narrow win to seal their spot in the semi-finals.
