Alvaro Morata Joins Galatasaray, AC Milan Saves on Budget

Alvaro Morata’s move to Galatasaray has provided AC Milan with a modest profit, but the real financial advantage comes from the potential savings in player costs. Galatasaray officially announced Morata’s transfer on Sunday, February 2, 2025. The Spanish striker, who captained his national team to victory in Euro 2024, greeted the Turkish club’s fans through a social media post while aboard a flight from Milan to Istanbul to finalize his transfer during the January window.
This transfer comes just seven months after Morata joined AC Milan from Atletico Madrid. Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the former Juventus and Real Madrid forward has been loaned to Galatasaray until the end of this season, with an option to extend the loan for another year and a permanent purchase clause.
More detailed reports from Calcio e Finanza revealed that the loan agreement lasts 18 months, with Galatasaray obliged to purchase Morata for 8 million euros under certain conditions. While Milan only stands to make a small profit from Morata’s departure compared to his initial transfer fee from Atletico, the long-term savings are much more significant.
In July 2024, Milan had paid a 13 million euro release clause to sign the striker, who then signed a four-year contract. His current estimated value, factoring in contract amortization, is around 11.38 million euros and could drop to 6.5 million euros by June 2026.
If Galatasaray exercises the buyout option in June 2026, Milan would earn a modest profit of 1.5 million euros (approximately 25.2 billion rupiah). However, the true financial benefit lies in the wages Milan will save. Morata currently earns 4.5 million euros annually, or a gross salary of 8.33 million euros.
By offloading Morata, Milan will avoid paying the remaining 3.47 million euros for his salary for the rest of this season and the full 8.33 million for the 2025-2026 season. This results in a total salary savings of 11.08 million euros (around 203.6 billion rupiah), which is more than six times the potential profit from the transfer itself.
This financial relief offers Milan a significant boost as the club continues to seek ways to enhance its revenue.
