Kluivert Watches as Persija Fails to Beat 10-Man PSBS

Persija Jakarta was held to a 2-2 draw by 10-man PSBS Biak in a Week 21 Liga 1 match at the Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium in Bekasi on Sunday (2/2) evening. The match, which was observed by Indonesia national team coach Patrick Kluivert and his coaching staff, saw Persija take the lead early on through a goal from Gustavo Almeida.

Almeida scored with a close-range header following a cross from the left flank, beating PSBS goalkeeper John Pigai. However, just six minutes later, PSBS equalized through Julian Velazquez, making it 1-1.

Eight minutes after that, Velazquez was sent off after a reckless challenge on Ryo Matsumura, with the referee issuing a red card after reviewing the incident via the Video Assistant Referee (VAR). Despite playing with a man down, PSBS managed to take the lead 2-1 in the second half. Takuya Matsunaga's powerful shot found the back of the net, despite a strong attempt by Persija's goalkeeper Andritany to block it.

In the second half, Persija's Rayhan Hannan, who had just come on as a substitute, leveled the score. He converted a cross from Ferarri, who had pushed forward to assist, bringing the score to 2-2.

As the match approached its conclusion, Persija increased their offensive pressure. In injury time, they thought they had scored the winning goal, but the effort was disallowed after VAR review determined that Gustavo Almeida had fouled goalkeeper John Pigai in an aerial duel prior to the goal.

The disallowed goal meant the score remained 2-2, and Persija had to settle for a draw against PSBS Biak.
