-----------------------------------
Real Madrid
The first of the aforementioned Supercups was claimed by the Blancos in 2020 in Jeddah. At that time, Real Madrid entered the tournament as the third team in La Liga but easily overcame Copa del Rey winners Valencia (3:1) before winning the penalty shootout against vice-champions Atlético Madrid in the final. In 2022 and 2024, Real also secured trophies in Saudi Arabia, albeit in Riyadh. They lost the 2023 final against Barcelona 1:3.

It is noteworthy that in the current campaign, the Blancos have already clinched two trophies – the UEFA Supercup and the FIFA Club World Cup – defeating Atalanta (2:0) and Pachuca (3:0) respectively. Now, Madrid is focused on another trophy. For Carlo Ancelotti’s side, this semi-final against Mallorca will be their third match of the new calendar year. On January 3, Real managed to stage a comeback against Valencia with a 2:1 away victory in a postponed match of round 12, and recently they effortlessly demolished Deportivo Minera from the fourth division with a 5:0 scoreline. Notably, in that match, the Blancos not only won comfortably but also preserved their key players for the clash against the islanders.

Real Madrid predicted lineup vs Mallorca (4-2-3-1): Courtois; Vazquez, Tchouameni, Rudiger, Mendy; Valverde, Camavinga; Rodrygo, Bellingham, Vinicius; Mbappe

Mallorca
This will be Mallorca's first appearance in the Spanish Supercup in its current format; previously, they competed for this trophy twice. In 1998, led by Héctor Cúper, the team won the title, narrowly defeating Barcelona twice, while in 2003, under Jaume Pacheco, they lost to Real Madrid by an aggregate score of 2:4. After a decade of relegation from La Liga, Mallorca returned promptly to the elite after featuring in the third division in the 2017-18 season. Last year, the team, managed by Javier Aguirre, unexpectedly reached the final but ultimately lost in a penalty shootout to Athletic Bilbao.

Since last summer, Mallorca has been under the guidance of long-time Osasuna coach Jagoba Arrasate, with whom they have shown significant improvement compared to previous seasons. The Balearic side finished the first half of the season in a commendable 6th place, exceeding expectations ahead of the current campaign. As of now, Jagoba Arrasate’s team is just six points behind Athletic Bilbao, currently in 4th place in the table. While I doubt Mallorca will ultimately manage to finish in the top six, the islanders have made evident progress. However, the new calendar year started on a bad note, as they suffered a painful 0:3 defeat to Pontevedra away, becoming yet another victim of this fourth-division side after Villarreal and Levante.

Mallorca predicted lineup vs Real Madrid (4-4-2): Greif; Mafeo, Valjent, Copete, Mojica; Asano, Morlanes, Mascarell, Darder; Larin, Muriqi.

Prediction: Real Madrid 2-0 Mallorca
Mallorca are hardly the most enterprising of units, but they are well-drilled and are bound to be an annoyance on Thursday. Madrid, however, head into the bout in good form and are less likely to come unstuck - as was the case on opening weekend. Unlike their opponents, they're used to lengthy ventures to Middle East, but they may have to be patient before eventually enjoying success.
