Official: Ruud van Nistelrooy Appointed as Leicester City Head Coach

Leicester City Official Statement

We are delighted to confirm that Ruud van Nistelrooy has been appointed as the new head coach of Leicester City's first team.

The 48-year-old Dutchman brings a wealth of top-level experience, both as a player and a coach.

Ruud will arrive in the UK in time to attend Saturday's Premier League fixture against Brentford and will officially take over first-team responsibilities starting Sunday. At the Gtech Community Stadium, Leicester City will be led by first-team coach Ben Dawson, supported by coaches Danny Alcock and Andy Hughes.

A former Netherlands international, van Nistelrooy is regarded as one of the greatest strikers in Premier League history. His managerial reputation has grown steadily through roles at PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United, and the Dutch national team.

Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, Chairman of Leicester City, said:

"I am delighted to welcome Ruud to Leicester City. He joins a club with a proud history, passionate supporters, and a talented squad. We are all excited to see the impact he will have as we embark on this new chapter together. Ruud's experience, knowledge, and winning mentality will be a tremendous asset, and we look forward to supporting him in achieving success for our fans and the club."

Ruud van Nistelrooy, in his first official interview with the club, added:

"I am proud and excited. Everyone I've spoken to has shown so much passion for Leicester City. They speak highly of the staff, the supporters, and, of course, the club's recent history. I am eager to get started, meet everyone, and give my all for this incredible club."

Our new head coach enjoyed a stellar playing career, representing PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United, and Real Madrid. He scored 349 goals at the club level and earned 70 caps for the Netherlands, netting 35 goals.

A prolific forward, van Nistelrooy was known for his sharp instincts, technical skills, and leadership on and off the pitch. Recently serving as an assistant to Erik ten Hag over the summer, he also took charge as interim manager for Manchester United, leading the team to three wins and a draw at the start of the season.

Van Nistelrooy has also coached PSV Eindhoven, where he began his managerial career after a successful playing stint at the club. Taking over as head coach in the summer of 2022, he guided PSV to triumphs in the KNVB Cup and the Johan Cruyff Shield.

His impressive coaching journey at PSV began in 2013, where he managed their U19 side for three seasons and led their second team in the Eerste Divisie for one year.

Van Nistelrooy's coaching résumé also includes serving as assistant coach to Guus Hiddink with the Dutch national team, gaining invaluable experience. As a player, he worked under legendary managers like Sir Alex Ferguson, Sir Bobby Robson, and Fabio Capello.

Van Nistelrooy will make his managerial debut for the "Foxes" next Tuesday when Leicester City hosts West Ham United in the Premier League at King Power Stadium.
