Experimenting with the Best Formation for the Indonesia National Team in the 2024 AFF Championship
Indonesia national team coach, Shin Tae-yong, has called up 33 players for a training camp in Bali from November 28 to December 5, 2024, in preparation for the 2024 AFF Championship. Among the 33 players, seven are based abroad, including Justin Hubner and Marselino Ferdinan in England, as well as Asnawi Mangkualam and Ronaldo Kwateh in Thailand.
In addition, there are Ivar Jenner in the Netherlands, Rafael Struick in Australia, and Pratama Arhan in South Korea. Among these seven players based abroad, the one who is certain to join the Indonesia national team is Arhan, who has already finished his season with Suwon FC in South Korea.
Meanwhile, some other players based abroad are still competing with their respective clubs. However, Asnawi and Ronaldo will be available to represent the Indonesia national team as the Thai league is on a break during the 2024 AFF Championship.
As part of his plans, since the 2024 AFF Championship is not included in the FIFA calendar, Shin Tae-yong has called up many U-22 and U-20 players for the training camp in Bali.
Five of them have been promoted from the U-20 national team, including Arkhan Kaka, Dony Tri Pamungkas, Kadek Arel Priyatna, Sulthan Zaky, and Ikram Algiffari.
Other players included in the training camp are alumni of the 2023 U-20 national team, such as Cahya Supriadi, Achmad Maulana Syarif, Dzaky Asraf, Kakang Rudianto, Arkhan Fikri, Zanadin Fariz, Daffa Fasya, and Alfriyanto Nico.
Additionally, several U-22 players from the Indonesia national team, like Muhammad Ferarri and Hokky Caraka, have also been entrusted to join the training camp in Bali. Shin Tae-yong will eventually cut ten players from the Bali camp, as the Indonesia national team can only register a maximum of 23 players for the 2024 AFF Championship.
The Indonesia national team will wait until December 5, 2024, for clarification on whether players abroad, such as Hubner, Marselino, and Jenner, can join the 2024 AFF Championship.
"Regarding the call-up of players abroad, we are still waiting," added Sumarjdi in his interview with Kompas TV on Sunday (November 24, 2024).
"But we always have active communication with their clubs. We will wait until the beginning of December 2024. Arhan can only join after November 29, 2024."
"Therefore, we will monitor the developments until we depart on December 5, 2024, to Myanmar. It's the same for all the players abroad. We are still communicating," he added.
