Emma Hayes Opens Up About Health Struggles After Chelsea Tenure
Emma Hayes has revealed that she felt "unwell" during the final stages of her time as head coach of Chelsea FC, attributing her health issues to the intense stress of the role. After completing a successful 12-year tenure that culminated in winning a fifth consecutive Women’s Super League title, Hayes has transitioned to lead the United States women's national team. Speaking in Camden, she emphasized the toll that managing Chelsea, particularly during her menopause, took on her health and well-being.

In her new role, Hayes expressed relief at being able to prioritize her health, stating, “I don’t have to sacrifice the things that made me healthy.” She noted that the stresses associated with her previous position were overwhelming, and stepping into international management has helped her regain her "mojo" and enjoyment for the game. Ahead of her first match against England at Wembley, she reflected on her time with Chelsea and the emotional complexity of facing players she previously coached.

Hayes acknowledged the unique challenge of competing against familiar faces, particularly Chelsea captain Millie Bright, whom she regards as a close confidante. Despite the nostalgia, Hayes emphasized that once the match begins, it’s strictly a business affair. Looking forward to the friendly, she hopes for an entertaining match that showcases the talents of both sides, while also cherishing the relationships she has built during her time in club football.
